  1. witter Twitter is a website in which users share short sentences or phrases called “tweets.” Twitter allows users to write traditional text, insert links, photos, and use tags and hashtags to connect each tweet to certain people, organizations, events, or ideas. Rules: 140 characters or fewer in each tweet (each letter, number, symbol, or blank space is 1 character).

  2. witter In these posts, it is common to find “text-talk” abbreviations and slang that help people say more while typing less: using the number 2 instead of the words to, too, or two; you is shortened to “U” - are is shortened to “R”; various acronyms take the place of phrases – LOL, IDK, SMH, or MPCITBS. Using these shortcuts is often appropriate and even better than using standard English grammar; just remember that you still need to consider your audience (the reader) to figure out the best way to write your tweets.

  7. Instagram is a social site where the emphasis is based on pictures instead of words (though often these pictures are just words). Instagram posts consist of a picture, a caption, and often mentions, tags, and hashtags. Captions have a high character limit (something like 2000 characters) but for this class, we’ll want to keep captions to around 60.
