  7. Subjective testing • Need more than Objective testing • Express their skills of analysis, synthesis • Essays • Cut and Paste skills • Web re-wording skills • “ didn’t copy, my English isn’t good so I took it straight off the web”

  8. Tim … Nice but Dim • “What do you mean by … my research was poor?” • “What do you mean I haven’t explained things properly?” • “Why have you given me 3 out of 10, I have explained it, I’ll have to do it different next time.”

  9. Why should they mark properly? • Students showing higher order skills • Analysis • Synthesis • Critical / Constructive feedback • The best way to show understanding (or lack of understanding) is to teach. • Marks for marking

  10. C.P.A.S.S • “My exam results are useless because the students can’t write essays” • “Where are they taught how to write essays for technical answers?” • “Expect them at level three to be able to write essays” • CPASS .. Practice answering exam type questions

  11. Acceptance? • Student • Fair • Reward = Effort? …. Quality • Meets objectives of subject • Lecturer • Easy / Fair / Happy students • Quality
