  2. Aaron Copland • Aaron Copland was an American composer, writer, and later in his career a conductor of his own and other American music. • He was instrumental in forging a distinctly American style of composition, and is often referred to as "the dean of American composers."

  3. Childhood • Aaron Copland was born in Brooklyn, New York • November 14, 1900. • He spent most of his childhood living at his parents' Brooklyn shop. • His parents never really encouraged him to music • At age fifteen he had already taken an interest in the subject and aspired to be a composer.

  4. His Music Career • Aaron Copland was one of the most talented (maybe the best) American classical composers of the twentieth century. • But he wasn’t for rock and roll or Hip Hop, he liked jazz, but he usually played with the Orchestra. • He also conducted the music for the movie “Of Mice and Men.” Written by John Steinbeck.

His trip to Paris! • From 1917 to 1921, he composed juvenile works on short piano pieces and art songs. • Copland liked European music a lot, and his friend Aaron Schaffer inspired him to stay in Paris and study more! • Copland’s father wanted him to go to college, but his mother wanted him to stay in Paris and study more music.

  6. 1950’s to 1960’s • In 1950, Copland finally got a “Fulbright.” Scholarship to study in Rome. • He also composed a Piano Quartet (a type of European music).

  7. Back to America • When Copland, returned to America he wanted to be a full-time composer. • He rented a studio apartment in New york.
