Introduction In the late XIX century, FRANCE usedmanyways of takingover a country (direct and indirect rule).SinceBritainbeganconqueringmanyterritoriednear Indo-china, theFrenchoffered VIETNAM protection so British couldnttakeoverVietnamesseterritory. Theprotectionestablishediscalled a protectorate. Beforebecoming a protectorate, Vietnam hadseveralstrugglesduetodifferentopinionsaboutreligion-someacceptedFrenchMisionairesbutothersdidnt. -vietnamessedivision

  3. Effects At first, theFrenchintendedtoprotect Vietnam, butthirstforpower and Europeanrivalrlyamongotherreasons, causedFrenchtotakeover Vietnam. Soon, Vietnam becamepart of French Indochina. AlthoughtheVietnamesseemperoracceptedFrench rule, groups as Can Vuougplotted and resistedtheFrench rules. Thesegroupswereidentifyed as groupswho defended local customs, values, and lifestyle. Theseidealscametogether as nationalism.Eventhough France wasverystrict , and alteredculture and lifestyle, theyalsomade Vietnam as a country better. Theybuildroads, bridged, schools, churches, gavejobs, made Vietnam richer , butstillmade Vietnam dependant of Frenchsupport. -nationalism

  4. Points of View (1) France: Frenchgovermentand societylooked as themselves as heroes, as a superior racethathelpedbarbariansbecomecivilized and madetheireconomy and govermentstronger. Theywereproudbecausetheysawit as a win-winsituation, in whichthey use Vietnamesserawmaterials, and Vietnam becomes a better and more civilized country economically, polilitically, and socially. Theythoughtthewhiteman´sburdenhadworkedperfectly. In fewwords, theywereconvincedtheyweredoingtherightthingbytaking control of Vietnam.

  5. Points of View(2) Vietnam: Althoughthoughttheyrecievedhelp and supportfrom France, Vietnamessepeoplewereextremelymadbecausetheywerenotrespacted- theirculture and lifestylewasdrasticallychanged, theyhadlow salaries, and couldntparticipate in theircountrie´sgoverment. ThesereasonsmadetheVietnamessethinkthatitwasbettertobewithout a powerfullcountry´shelp, thathavinghelp and supportbutnotbeingrespected at all.
