General Guidelines • Use computer for academic purposes only! • Save battery life • Save bandwidth • Report problems immediately • Follow up with Computer Depot as needed • Do not login to network if there is a problem with your documents • Report loss/theft immediately • Technology specialist, SRO or Admin
General Guidelines • Student responsibility • Computer use fee ($85 per year) • $250 deductible - lost orstolen (covers parts as well) • $35 fee for damage to STOP tag • Students can be charged full price for parts and repairs if damage is found to be intentional or due to negligent use. • Damage that is accidental is covered under Warranty agreement w/ Dell • Students are responsible for backing up their files. • Students must use computer in accordance with RCPS Acceptable Use Policy.
ONLY authorized programs installed by RCPS staff may be used on your laptop. • Do not download, install or play GAMES, MUSIC, VIDEO or PICTURES unless directly related to classroom instruction. • E-Mail and instant messaging are PROHIBITED. • Do not attempt to bypass any form of security built into the network or laptop by RCPS.
The Laptop MUST be transported responsibly in the bag / case provided. • Students many NOT remove any part of the computer. • Students shall not remove labels on laptop. • No marker, paint, glue, stickers or similar substances are to be placed on the laptop.
Acceptable Use Policy • To sum it up: • If it is not school work…. you are probably breaking the rules Use the computer for SCHOOL WORK ONLY!

Use and Care • No food or drink next to laptop • Keep computer clean and dry • Don’t leave in car that is too hot or too cold. • Don’t leave unattended • Know where your laptop is at all times. • Handle with care
Use and Care • Do not… • close any object inside the computer • use cleaners on screen;wipe with clean, soft cloth • pack laptop bag with books or place laptop in a book bag.
Logon to Network • Student login is first initial, last name, last four digits of student number • example: jdoe1234 • Student will set his or her own password • Parents may request login/password • Technology Specialist will have master list and change password if necessary.
Password Security • Keep password confidential!! • Each person is responsible for actions taken on their account and computer.
Internet Safety • Internet Access is filtered here at school. • Internet Access is not filtered when away. from school. • Monitor your students laptop use • Take the laptop away if necessary. • More to Come… • New Va. state law mandates Internet Safety Education to students.
Safety Tips • Protect your passwords • Don’t give out personal identifying information. • Don’t meet anyone in person you have met online. • Be careful what you post about yourself on social networking sites especially pictures • Actions do have consequences!
