Bone: Hard body tissue made of both living cells and nonliving material. Forms the skeleton. Spongy Bone: Beneath the layer of compact bone. Contains many hollow spaces to help prevent breaking because they act as shock absorbers. Compact Bone: A very hard layer of bone that gives it strength. Periosteum: Lining of the bone. Marrow: Where blood cells are produced.
Cartilage:Cushions and protects bones where they rub against each other.
