  1. Data Warehouse User GroupApril 26, 2012 • Apex Data Update • License Types in Cognos 8 • Known User Issues with Cognos 8.4 • On the Horizon

  2. Apex Test Data • Working with PDS to model the following subject areas • Transaction • Utilization • Appointment • AR History • Denials • Reimbursement

  3. License Types in Cognos 8 • Cognos 8 has several different license types • Consumer • View/Run/Export reports created by Business Analysts and Business Authors (below) • Drill-up, Drill-down and Go-To capability • Business Analyst • Can Author Reports inside Analysis Studio • All the same privileges as Consumer for non-AS reports • Business Author • Can Author reports from both Analysis Studio and Query Studio • All the same privileges as Consumer for non-AS and non-QS reports

  4. License Types in Cognos 8 • Managers and other staff who are too busy to author reports themselves, but who need to “consume” the data in the reports, should be converted to a Consumer licenses. Why? • We have many more of these • It could free up Analyst/Author license(s) for other members of your department • This license won’t require you to attend the 2-day training at Laurel Heights

  5. Known User Issues with Cognos 8 • Exporting to Excel • Remember the 3-F Rule • Finger • File • Firefox • Twelve item display in AS is annoying…the dreaded More hyerlink • Quick fix is to Suppress Zeros • Go To (a.k.a. Drill-thru) is difficult • Apply as many filters as humanly possible • Those users who have access to multiple departments/IDX divisions MUST include the Division name in the Context Filter • Sharing Reports with users from other departments • “z-Sandbox” folder allows users from different divisions to share report specifications

  6. How do we feel about…. • A “true” Cognos User Group? • Forum for users to share content knowledge/reports/tips with each other outside of monthly user meetings hosted by the Medical Group • Group could serve as beta-testers for new objects, as well as make recommendations to the Cognos Administrators • Interested users should contact Joe Czech (Radiation Oncology) to organize • Report Writing Workshops? • We could rent the Laurel Height computer room for the purpose of designing reports • Users can share their report specifications, then work with me to create those reports in AS or QS • Sharing report specs with other users will likely help others encountering the same challenges
