  2. The Physical Description of the Nene Goose • The Nene is a medium-sized goose at 16 inches tall. The weight is about 50lbs. • Nene goose are small ,attractive ,grey-brown goose. It’s body has scaly patterns of grey ,brown ,and white. • The Nene has a black face, a crown, cream-colored cheeks, and a buff neck.

  3. The Nene Habitat • Nene primarily nest in lowland habitats such as rugged lava fields of the Big Island, Hawaii National Park, and Haleakala National Park. • Nene are also found sparsely, vegetated, volcanic slopes.

  4. What Nene are Harmed By • The Nene is a prey to mongoose, feral dogs, cats, rats, pigs, and boars.

  5. Other Cool Facts • The Nene has been the state bird since 1957, but approximately 500 Nene exists in the wild today. • The name Nene comes from it’s soft call. • Nene fossil records show that it lived on all the main hawaiian islands.
