Values. WHAT IS A VALUE?. There are some things in life that are very important. Very often our behavior, what we say and do, is influenced by our values. What is a value? We may say: the ideas that we believe are important, the qualities that we rate highly are our values. .

  3. There are some things in life that are very important. • Very often our behavior, what we say and do, is influenced by our values. What is a value? We may say: the ideas that we believe are important, the qualities that we rate highly are our values.

  4. HOW TO KNOW YOUR VALUES

  5. Values Auction • Everyone has $300 dollars to spend at the Auction • Bidding goes up by $10 dollars at a time • Bid on the Values that are important to you

Value Amount Bidder • Being a good friend • Being popular • Being good looking • Having a good education • Not having pre-marital sex • Having independence • Having a close relationship with my family • Being athletic • Going out with someone I love • Having children someday • Having the best technology (cell, laptop, iPod…) • Being honest • Having a best-friend • Being rich someday • Having self-confidence • Practicing my religion • Having nice clothes • Being part of a team or club • Having your own car • Having respect for myself and others

  7. Your values are your personal inventory of what you consider most important in life. • We all have values, but unless we take the time to think about those values, we can easily overlook them when we're making important choices.

Here are some guidelines for identifying what you value: • Is this something that's important to you? • Do you feel good about this being important to you? • Would you feel good if people you respect knew that this was important to you? • Have you ever done anything that indicates that this is important to you? • Is this something you would stand by even if others made fun of you for it? • Does this fit in with your vision of who you are?

  10. Values play an important part in our lives. They help us decide what we expect of ourselves and of others. Our values help us to make decisions.

  11. HOW TO BE YOURSELF

  12. It's not always easy to be ourselves. Sometimes, when we're with other people, we make choices or act in ways that are different from when we're alone. • Here are some ways to prevent that from happening:• Know your values and stay true to them.• Make your own choices, don't just go along with the crowd.• Respect yourself.• Think about your goals and act accordingly.

  14. Journal #7 Visit VALUES.COM website and choose 2 Values from the homepage. Click on the values and read inspirational quotes regarding the 2 Values. Copy the quotes and comment on how they apply to this Value. (2 paragraphs) OR Choose 2 Values that are important to you. Define the Values and explain how you live out these Values in your own life. Give specific examples. (2 paragraphs) OR Create 2 Billboards of your own on Values.com and print them off and put them in your Journal.
