  3. What we do Sycamore Tree Sycamore Tree is a victim awareness programme that teaches the principles of restorative justice to prisoners, also recognising the impact of offending on families and the community  . Sycamore Tree Peer Mentoring Enabling prisoners to develop communication skills, responsibility through supporting other learners and an opportunity to give back to the prison community. Letter Writing Our Letter Writing programme enables prisoners to feel valued and supported. Friendships develop where prisoners are able to experience the normality of receiving and writing letters preparing for their future life after release.

  4. What we do Sycamore Tree • Raises awareness of the full impact of crime • Challenges offenders to plan for the future and to think about family relationships    • Encourages offenders to make amends to families • Often results in significant steps to heal family relationships

  5. What we do • Sycamore Tree • Since 2005 1,274 courses • 79 prisons • 19,000 prisoners

  6. Angel Tree Angel Tree supports prisoners in their family relationships by providing a way for them to give Christmas presents to their children.

  7. Angel Tree •   There are 160,000 children in England and Wales with a parent in prison •     This is two and a half times the number of those in care and over six times the number of those on the Child Protection Register •      7% of children will experience their father’s imprisonment before they leave school •      In 2006 more children were affected by the imprisonment of a parent than by divorce •        66% of women and 59% of men in prison have dependant children under 18

  8. What we do • Angel Tree • Since 2004 24,500 presents distributed • In 2013 88 prisons will have Angel Tree

  9. Angel Tree “I would like to thank you from the bottom of my heart. I am very close to my little girl and it has been very hard on us being parted and Angel Tree made it a bit easier. My little girl’s heart was broken that day and that lovely gift put it back together.” Prisoner “My daughter saw the present , her face just lit up. She ran around the hugging the parcel and shouting “It’s from daddy! Thank you so much, the look on my daughter’s face and the sheer joy in her I will never forget” Parent A “A very big thank you for the support and generosity, also for the kindness in considering prisoners and their children. I think it is volunteers like Angel Tree that show prisoners that life is about giving, not taking. Thank you for all the work that you do.” Parent B
