2. Northeast Region • Tribes: • Iroquois, Wampanog, Illini, Alonquin and Potowami • Homes • longhouses and wigwams • There is a lot of rain so plants grow well • Plants • maple, birch, strawberry and mushrooms • Animals • Deer, black bear, wild turkey and the rabbit

3. Southeast Region • Stretching from the Atlantic Ocean to the Mississippi River and from the Gulf of Mexico to the Ohio River • Tribes • Cherokee, Chickasaw, Creek, Seminole, Biloxi and Natchez • Land and climate • mountainous with rivers and forests in the northern area. The climate is hot and humid in the summer and is mild in the winter • They lived in chickees • Plants • oak, saw palmetto, saw grass and cypress • animals • deer, alligator, rabbit and white heron

4. Southwest Region- Home of Navajo and the Apache • The land and climate • tall mountains, deep canyons where rivers flow, forests of pine, juniper and, piñon. The days are hot and the nights are cold • Homes: • hogan and pueblo • Plants • cactus, juniper, sagebrush and pines • Animals • rattlesnake, jack rabbit, coyote and the pronghorn antelope • Corn was the most important crop for the southwest people. They ground it into corn meal and baked it in ovens. Corn was dried and stored for times of drought when there was no rain. The pueblo people made pottery to store the dried food.

5. Great Plains Region • Tribes: • Lakota and Dakota(Sioux), Pawnee, Arapaho • Land and climate: • Grasslands in the center. Snow falls and it gets very cold at the top. Rain is rare. Few trees. • Plants: • Gloriasia daisy, Lodgedole pines, grasses and Currants. • Animals: • Wolf, Buffalo, Deer and Prairie dog • Home: • Teepees, wickiups and earth lodges

6. Great Basin Region • Tribes: • Shoshone, Paiute and Mono, Nez Perce, the Ute, and the Umatilla • Animals: • Beaver, Bighorn sheep, Gray wolf and Trout • Home: • Wickiups, roundhouses, and teepee-shaped longhouses • Land/Climate: • mountains and forests. Spruce, balsams and aspens grow higher in the mountains. It is dry and desert-like in the southern area. Northern California is cool and moist. There are dry, hot deserts in the eastern area. • Plants: • Acorns, Cattail, Mesquite and Huckleberry

7. Northwest Region • Location: • 2,000 miles of coastline from southern Alaska to northern California. • Tribes: • Chinook, Haida, Nootka and Tlingit • Land/Climate: • The Pacific northwest coast is a narrow strip of land between the Pacific Ocean on the west and mountains in the east. The summers are cool, and winters are mild and wet, so there are many trees and plants. There are frequent rain storms and winters could suddenly get very cold. • Home: • Cedar Plank House • Plants: • Camas, Hemlock, Spruce and Huckleberry • Animals: Clam, Grizzly bear, Sea Otter, Caribou

9. Compare • The Great Basin, Northwest, and Southeast have mountains. • The Southeast, and Great Basin have forests. • The Southeast and Great Plains have rivers. • The southeast and Northwest regions both have mild winters.
