Why Web basics matter • Every day, millions of people connect to the Internet to access information they need. • People use the Internet to shop, pay bills or check the local news. • The Internet is an essential part of daily routine. • As the Internet’s role in communication, entertainment, commerce and work increases, so does the need for people who have Web skills.

  4. 1.1 Main Ideas • The Internet is a worldwide network of hardware. • The World Wide Web is a part of the Internet. Web sites are divided into categories that meet particular needs.
