  1. Common 7th Grade Science Lab Equipment

  2. Safety Goggles • used to protect eyes from flying objects (impact) or spilled liquids (splash)

  3. Graduated Cylinder • a measuring instrument for measuring fluid volume; a glass container (cup or cylinder or flask) whose sides are marked with or divided into amounts

  4. Test Tube A clear, cylindrical glass tube usually open at one end and rounded at the other, used in laboratory experimentation. Usually used to mix, or separate, chemicals or mixtures.

  5. Beaker A wide cylindrical glass vessel with a pouring lip, used as a laboratory container and mixing jar.

  6. Pipette • used to transfer SMALL amounts of liquids

  7. Triple Beam Balance A balance that generates a current proportional to the displacement of the pan Used to PRECISELY measure the mass of an object in grams (g).

  8. Erlenmeyer Flask Created by Emil Erlenmyeyer in 1861. Used to swirl or stir contents. Narrow neck prevents spills.

  9. Safety Glove (Oven Mitt) Used when carrying or handling hot objects.

  10. Forceps (Tweezers) Small pincers, usually of metal, used for plucking or handling small objects.

  11. Funnel • Used to transfer liquids. • Used to filter mixtures (with filter paper).

  12. THERMOMETER A measuring device used to measure the temperature of an object. Usually measured in ºC.
