History of the SPD • The SPD was formed in 1875 during the merge of the General German Workers’ Union and the Social Democratic workers party. • In 1890, they changed their name to the Social Democratic Party. • From 1878 to 1890, the party was officially outlawed. • The party began to have growing support and by 1912 it was the largest party in Reichstag (Imperial Diet). • Peer Steinbrück is the only chancellor that has come from this party.

  3. Leader of the SPD • Sigmar Gabriel is the chairman of the Social Democratic Party.

  4. Official Colors of the SPD • The official color of the Social Democratic Party is red. • The symbol of the SPD is a rose.

  5. Seats • They had 146 seats before the election, and now have 192 seats.

  6. Support/Seats in State • The Social Democratic Party was supported, or voted on, by the areas in red.

  7. Platform of the SPD • The SPD wants to start an energy revolution by creating a department of energy resource. • They want to do this for three reasons: renewable energy, expansion of networking, and the reducing of taxes.
