Professional registration is renewed every three years through revalidation Approx 16,000 nurses and midwives have already begun the process – approx. 685,000 to undertake it over next three years So – what is revalidation?

Aims to strengthen the three yearly registration renewal process Is the responsibility of the nurse or midwife Employers also have a responsibility for facilitating process and that practitioners are registered to practise in clinical areas. All information on revalidation and forms and templates are available on the NMC website YOU own the process! Involves using the Code as a reference point

Practice hours - 450 hours if revalidating as a nurse (or 900 for nursing and midwifery) Continuing professional development (cpd) – 35 hours of which 20 MUST be participatory Practice related feedback – 5 pieces Written reflective accounts – five pieces A reflective discussion – with an NMC registered nurse or midwife Health and character Professional indemnity arrangement Confirmation 8 core requirements and supporting evidence

Be highly organised and proactive Maximise opportunities to gain evidence Link in with your appraisal Adopt a professional and positive approach to this Keep a portfolio and a folder for supplementary evidence Set up an online account Inform the NMC of any changes to personal circumstances (email and address) Note deadlines in your diary Have all the supporting evidence ready before you start the online application for revalidation Some practical tips -
