  2. General information about the COP-16 heldinCancuninMexico from 29th November to 11th December 2010 under the UN Framework Convention on ClimateChange and the 6th Meeting of theParties to theKyotoProtocol (CMP6) tracks

  3. Main achievement Extensivenegotiationsadopted the Cancun Agreement – a set of decisionthatwillfinallylead to a newtreaty for post-2012 globalclimatechange regime thatconcernssharedvision for long-term cooperationactions and mitigation and setsup a widevariety of newinstruments, mechanisms, and processes. .

  4. The Cancun Agreement affirmsthat the climatechangeis one of the greatestchallenges of our time and scaledupoverallmitigationeffortsareneeded;

  5. approves 2C goal of global greenhousegas emissions; establishes the Green Climate Fund, REDD+ and guiding work in areas such as the technology mechanism and adaptation framework.

  6. From a development policy perspectives the packages„realizesthataddressingclimatechangerequires a paradigmshifttowardsbuilding a low-carbonsocietythatofferssubstantialopportunities and ensurescontinued high growth and suistanable development”

  7. As a shift toward low-carbon development is needed all governments are encouraged to prepare low-carbon development strategies in the context of sustainable development

  8. What`s next? Extension of the work of the ad hoc working groups under the UN Climate Change Convention and the Kyoto Protocol for a further year while leaving open the legal form of the eventual outcome of the negotiations

  9. Longterm emissionstarget – voluntaryalreadyadopted by manygovernmentscouldbecomelegallybinding in the future
