  1. Earth System Research Laboratory Global Systems Division Technology Outreach Branch FX-Net Technology Transfer to ENSCO Sher Schranz, Project ManagerNOAA/ESRL/GSDAffiliated with Colorado State University Cooperative Institute for Research in the Atmosphere (CIRA) 2007 National Air Quality Conference February 13, 2007

  2. NOAA/ESRL - EPA Collaboration History: FY2003: FX-Net client evaluated for use by state and local air quality forecasters FY2004: AQ Forecaster evaluation determined use of FX-Net to be of great value to the AQ Forecaster. FY2005: Agreement to begin Pilot Project with the EPA is signed. Dedicated servers are built and 30+ clients are distributed to state and local AQ forecasters. Hands-on Training is conducted in Philadelphia. FY2006: A new client was delivered to the EPA. Clients were made available to all state and local AQ forecasters. Training was conducted and recorded using WebEx online. FY2007: No EPA funds available for FX-Net support and maintenance.

  3. A NOAA Mission: Together, we monitor, enhance, and deliver environmental information, science, and services to save lives, protect property, and support environmental stewardship.   In support of this mission: ESRL/GSD develops technology to provide better, quicker and more valuable weather and water information to support Improved decisions. FX-Net was developed with this goal in mind. One of ESRL/GSD’s main goals is to transfer technology to operational users for the benefit of the public. Private sector technology transfer meets those goals.

  5. Background • 2002: NOAA AWIPS → ENSCO MetWise • Support for aviation initiatives • 2004: Developed MetWise Net as a product • Desire to provide AWIPS functionality to all weather enthusiasts • 2005: Launched MetWise Net at annual AMS Meeting • 2006: ESRL/GSD request: Use MetWise Net to support AQ meteorologists http://extremeforecasting.com
