  2. Purpose Taken from the New Zealand Public Health and Disability Act 2000. “to reduce health disparities by improving health outcomes for Māori”

  3. Māori Health Disparities • Māori health is worse than non-Māori health for almost every disease condition • DHBs have a legislative requirement to address this issue

  4. History: Māori Health Plans • OPF expectation that DHBs have a MHP since 2006/2007 • All DHBs have had a MHP • Some expired • Majority will expire by 2012 • Existing MHPs of variable quality

  5. MHPs Inconsistent • Range of Accountability and Monitoring arrangements • Some with strong accountability • Some with no accountability • Most MHPs align with DAP • Some don’t • Most MHPs written by DHB • Some not
