Manila: A Historical and Economic Hub Facing Modern Challenges

Manila, the capital of the Philippines, spans 38.5 square kilometers and has a population of 1.65 million. Steeped in history from 333 years of Spanish colonization to significant World War impacts, it has flourished as a major trading city and a vital economic center. Despite its rich ecosystem, Manila faces pressing issues such as pollution, soil erosion, and the need for rehabilitation amidst rising sea levels. As one of the busiest ports globally, it remains a vital tourist attraction and a key player in the nation’s future growth and sustainability.
