MassCUE Evaluators Developing Indicators
Start With Your Central Claim • What is your stated reason for doing this project or activity? What do you want to happen? • This is your overarching goal and vision. • Brainstorm and Discuss
Indicators • Now that you know what you want to happen, think about how best to describe and document this. • What will it look like when you can positively state that you have met your central claim? • This leads to indicators • We have found that for educational projects it is good to describe your indicators in several categories. • This reflects the multiple dimensions of your project • This helps you formatively troubleshoot your project
Classroom Performance • Curriculum and Instruction • Your initiative’s impact on teacher work/behavior (pedagogy) • Your initiative’s impact on student learning • Professional Development • Description of the professional development structures necessary to sustain your initiative
Technology Infrastructure and Policies • Description of the infrastructure necessary to support your initiative • The nature of policies, support, etc. • Community Support and Sustainability • What does your community need to believe and do in order to demonstrate support for your initiative?
Indicators Should Be… • Descriptive • Qualitatively or Quantitatively Measureable • Understandable • The audience for your evaluation needs to be able to understand – visualize – what your indicator means.
Next Steps, Your Work • Now, work in teams to develop indicators for your chosen categories • 2 hours now • More time tomorrow morning • Teams will share their work before starting tomorrow’s team time.
