  1. Learning Pathways • Whatever qualifications your teenager achieves at the end of year 11 there will be an opportunity for them to progress to the next level • Level 1 qualifications 5 GCSE’s D-G • Level 2 qualifications 5 GCSE’s A*-C • Level 3 qualifications Apprenticeships, Higher diplomas, A levels, • Level 4-8 Foundation degrees, Higher National Diplomas, Honours Degrees Learning together; achieving excellence

  2. Post 16 Opportunities • Peter Symonds College offers traditional A/S A2 qualifications e.g. English, Maths, Sciences, History, Geography some BTEC’s and Applied vocational type courses e.g. Health and Social Care, Business Studies– (Level 3 qualifications) • Barton Peverell College offers similar courses to Peter Symonds A/S A2, some BTEC’s and Applied courses in vocational subjects – H.S.Care, Business, Arts. Learning together; achieving excellence

  3. Apprenticeships – Level 2 Qualification • For some pupils • There are a variety of apprenticeships available – plumbing, engineering, motor vehicle, • These are usually advertised locally, nationally and by word of mouth • Careers Adviser –Mike Jolliffe will help individual pupils who want to choose this route Learning together; achieving excellence

  4. Other Colleges • BCOT and Eastleigh Colleges offer NVQ’s/BTEc’s/ National Diplomas in vocational subjects such as construction, motor vehicle, hair and beauty, travel and tourism (level 2 and 3 qualifications) • Sparsholt/Andover offers vocational style courses similar to BCOT and Eastleigh but also specialises in land based and agricultural e.g. horticulture, equine studies, fisheries etc • (level 2 and 3 qualifications) Learning together; achieving excellence

  5. Employment with training • Some pupils want to choose this route • Employment can be advertised locally, nationally, by word of mouth, or via the internet. • Employment with accredited work related qualifications can be level 2 or level 3 • Careers Adviser –Mike Jolliffe will help individual pupils who want to choose this route Learning together: achieving excellence

  6. Make decisions • Making sense of the options available is not easy • Making decisions about what to do post 16 is difficult • Make decisions based on the course(s) you want to study, the college you want to study at, and the qualifications you are likely to achieve • Keep your options open by applying for more than one course…more than one college….NOT by avoiding making any applications • Have a back up plan Learning together; achieving excellence

What to do next - pupils • Focus on school …work …lessons and ….attendance • Meet deadlines set by your teacher • Complete all coursework /controlled assessments to a high standard • Revise for informal internal exams – they do count!! • Keep life in perspective Learning together: achieving excellence

  9. What to do next - parents • Attend college open evenings • Look through college prospectus • Find out about the different qualifications • Refer to entry requirements for colleges and possibly universities Learning together: achieving excellence

  10. ………..GCSE Qualifications • are with you for life • prepare you for the next phase of learning • are the currency for employment, training, further and higher education • Good GCSE results means more opportunities post 16 • All subjects are equally important – English and maths are crucial • UCAS forms for university applications require GCSE grades Learning together: achieving excellence

  11. Work Experience • Monday 6th July – 17th July 2015 • Introduction and meeting with parents summer term • Pupils find own placement • Pupils to return signed form by October half term so that H and S checks can be carried out Learning together; achieving excellence
