Sheet Metal Fab 100 Metal Rose Project
Break up into small groups and make a list of expected materials and tool that you think will be needed for this project. • There are many great websites and videos on the internet that show examples of how it is made. • You may use your phones, tablets, computers, etc.
How it’s Made • Each group will share with the rest of the class what types of tools and materials we will need for this project.
Safety Equipment • Leather gloves • Safety glasses • Tinted goggles
Materials Needed • 2x 5”x5” pieces of galvanized tin. • 12” barbed wire • 1 stick of flux coated brazing rod • Green and red spray paint.
Tools Needed • Duck bill pliers • Needle nose pliers • Metal shears • Acetylene torch • Heavy wire cutters
Step 1 • Measure and cut out: • 1x 5’’ round of tin • 1x 4.5’’ round of tin
Step 2 • Cut four 1.5’’ slits toward the middle of each piece.
Step 3 • One ear at a time, fold over the edge with your duck bill pliers, and curve the petal until it starts to take the shape of a rose.
Step 4 • Once both pieces are shaped, they will be placed within one another and brazed together.
Step 5 • Carefully cut of 1 12’’ piece of barbed wire and braze it to the bottom of the rose.
Step 6 • Paint your roses whatever color you like, and be amazed at what you have created with your own hands.
