  4. Eligibility • What is the difference between HKUWW and FAEP?HKU Worldwide Exchange Programme (HKUWW) offer semester and full year exchange at over 300 University level partners. The application opens to students from all 10 faculties. It is administered by the Office of International Student Exchange. There will be a late round recruitment in March. • Faculty of Arts Exchange Programme (FAEP) offers strong programmes in Arts and Humanities in selected host institutions. The application opens only to BA students. There is no second round recruitment. Arts 4

  5. Eligibility • Can I apply for both programmes?You can apply for both programmes but you should choose a different set of universities in HKUWW. (If an institution is both the partner of HKUWW and Faculty of Arts, Arts student who choose that institution in HKUWW will be ignored.) • Can I apply for exchange programmes if I am a freshman?We accept applications from year 1 students but some host institutions may require applicants to be year 2 students when they submit their application. • Can I study abroad in my final year?Yes, but please make sure that you follow the Faculty’s credit transfer guidelines and study appropriate courses overseas so that you can transfer credits and fulfill the major and graduation requirements.   7. Selection Criteria • I have applied for both Faculty exchange programme and HKUWW. Will I get two offers? / How are you going to coordinate the result with OISE? / Would it affect the chance of getting HKUWW offer if I apply for Faculty exchange programme?In the online application of the Faculty exchange programme, we require applicants to provide a list of their top 6 preferred universities combining what they have chosen in the FAEP and HKUWW. We will coordinate the result with OISE according to the list. There will be only one offer to you either from the Faculty or OISE. Arts 7

  8. Financial assistance • How much will study abroad cost?The cost varies depending on the location and length of the programme. You are required to pay for the HKU tuition fee while studying overseas. You are also responsible for the airfare, accommodation insurance, local transportation, food and living expense Arts 8

  9. Financial assistance • Are there any scholarships available?All successful applicants of HKUWW and FAEP with a CGPA, at the semester before their departure, of 3.0 or more will be eligible to receive a HKUWW scholarship. Arts 9

  10. Financial assistance • At the Faculty level, there are Run Run Shaw Scholarship and Arts Student Development Fund to support student to study abroad. Details of application will be announced in March 2017. Arts 10

Other Financial Assistance • Subsidy on Exchange for Post-secondary Students by HKSAR Government – Education Bureau • Mean-tested grant up to HK$15,000 • Means-tested student financial assistance recipients provided by Student Financial Assistance Agency (SFAA) under Tertiary Student Finance Scheme (TSFS) or Financial Assistance Scheme for Post-secondary Students (FASP);  OR • Students’ families are the recipients provided by Comprehensive Social Security Assistance (CSSA) • First-in-the-Family Education Fund (CEDARS) • Usually HK$ 10,000 • For full-time and full-degree undergraduate • Being the first-generation university students in their families • Low monthly household income and assets Arts 11

Credit Transfer • Will study abroad defer graduation?If students plan ahead and follow the Faculty’s credit transfer guidelines, there is no reason graduation will be delayed. • Is credit transfer easier if I apply for FAEP?Credit transfer procedures are the same for HKUWW and FAEP applicants (applying for HKUWW won’t reduce the chance of credit transfer). Credit Transfer • When do I need to submit the credit transfer application?Parts I and II of the credit transfer application form should be submitted to the Arts Faculty Office via email (arts@hku.hk) at least 6 weeks prior to the start of the exchange semester at the host institution. • How many courses should I take at the host institution?You need to take full course load required by the host institution and keep your departments / the Faculty informed about any course changes.
