Maryland State Energy Consortia First Organizational Meeting in April 2008 90+ members from Business Industry Associations Labor Education State and Local Government Community Organizations Facilitated by the Maryland Governor’s Workforce Investment Board (GWIB) as part of their Center for Industry Initiatives – Targeted Industry Steering Committees.

First Year Objectives • Identify critical workforce issues in the energy industry in both the “traditional” and “green” energy workforce. • Prepare a “white paper” that includes Maryland specific data and an action plan to strengthen the pipeline of talent. • Convene Statewide Conference to validate the research and compile recommendations.

  6. Objectives for 2009-2010 • Leverage partnerships created during the energy industry steering committee process • Recruit industry speakers and establish a speakers bureau • Promote energy industry and energy careers paths • Maryland Career & Technical Education • Maryland SkillsUSA and First Robotics • Build competency models using CEWD model • Up-skill incumbent workers • Support pre-employment test prep courses and basic training programs to remove barriers to employment. • Support CCBC Construction and Energy Pre-Apprenticeship program (2008 US DOL Grant) • Support CSM Nuclear Maintenance Technology Degree Program (US DOL & NEI UC Pilot Project) • Sustain the momentum post-steering committee and “white paper”
