  3. Carwash Certification Program • Purpose • Establish General Operating Standards • Encourage Water Conservation • Increase Efficiency • Recognize the Carwash Industry

  4. Carwash Certification Program • Who Can Participate? • Self-Serve • In-Bay Automatic • Conveyor

  5. Carwash Certification Program • Applying for Certification • Complete Application Form • Pay $100 Fee • Certify compliance with applicable criteria

  6. Carwash Certification Program • Annual Inspection • ACSA or designee • Request for Proposal • Failed Inspection • ACSA to provide written notice • 14 Days for compliance

  7. Carwash Certification Program • Fees • Application Fee - $100 • Annual Renewal Fee - $100

  8. Carwash Certification Program • General Operating Standards • Original Specifications • Nozzles replaced annually • Leaks repaired immediately • Low-flow toilets • Reverse Osmosis effluent reused • Employee Training – Written/Oral

  9. Carwash Certification Program • Self-Serve Facilities • Positive shut-off valves • Pumps and nozzles < 3.5 GPM • Freeze protection system maintained

  10. Carwash Certification Program • In-Bay Automatic Facilities • Positive shut-off valves • 5 Second Dwell Time • >20% of wash water shall be reclaimed water

  11. Carwash Certification Program • Conveyor Facilities • Automatic shut-off valves in all washing machines • >20% of wash water shall be reclaimed water

  12. Carwash Certification Program • Benefits • Use less water = Reduced water bill • Display signage as “ACSA Certified” • ACSA website • Promotional materials CHANGE PUBLIC PERCEPTION!

  13. Drought Watch Stage • Certified carwash facilities agree to: • Use only reclaimed water to irrigate • Sweeping • Adjust high-pressure pumps to < 1,000 psi

  14. Drought Warning Stage • Certified carwash facilities* agree to: • Use a minimum of 40% reclaimed water in the wash process * Excludes Self-Service Carwash Facilities

  15. Drought Emergency Stage • Certified carwash facilities agree to: • Reduce the current use of water by 20%, as required by all businesses
