  2. Meet Mrs. Preece • This is Mrs. Preece’s 3rd year at FWES • Interests: Cooking, Traveling, cheering for the NCSU wolfpack, Spending time with family and friends and her puppy, Lucy cpreece@wcpss.net

  3. Meet Mrs. Schwartz • Mrs. Schwartz has been teaching at FWES for 18 years! • She enjoys reading at the beach, traveling, decorating, and spending time at the lake on a boat! mschwartz@wcpss.net

  4. Meet Ms. Moore… • This is Ms. Moore’s first year at FWES, but she has been teaching for 8 years! • She enjoys reading, drawing, writing, traveling, and spending time with family! mmoore5@wcpss.net

  5. Meet Ms. Lemak… • This is Ms. Lemak’s first year at FWES, but she has been teaching for 7 years • Ms. Lemak enjoys reading, visiting family and friends in Michigan, going to the beach, and shopping SLemak@wcpss.net

GOLD Procedures In the Classroom • Positive Reinforcement • Tickets • Compliment Cards • Prize choices • Fun Friday • Students will earn rewards for going for the GOLD in the classroom and throughout the school. If students do not follow GOLD procedures, the consequences will be: • Laps at recess • Minor and Major Behavior Forms • Loss of privileges • Lunch detention • Loss of Fun Friday

Parent Essential Agreements: • Review agendas and homework nightly • Monday Folder with evaluation sheet • Bi-Monthly Newsletters • Return signed interims and report card envelopes • Attend conferences We’re all in this together! We want your student to succeed and if we all work together, your child will benefit! Thank you for all you do as a parent!

  11. Homework • Homework is an extension of the day’s lesson. It will never be anything that we have not already gone over in class. • The purpose is to support daily lessons and practice skills to build success • Check your student’s assignment book each night • If you find that your child is struggling, please do not just get the homework done, let us know and we will work together to get your student on the right track! • If a student does not complete their homework, they will have lunch detention with an assigned teacher the next day.

Reminders • Parent Note for ALL transportation changes • Signed note for absences • Tardies-parents must walk into office with student to sign in • Attendance policy is in school handbook • ALL volunteers must be registered in the county computer data base. You will not be allowed to do any volunteer work in our school until this is complete. • Parents may join their students for lunch either in the cafeteria or on a picnic table outside!

  13. Standards Based Grading • Based on NC standard course of study • Assessments are evaluated against standards/skill mastery, not compared to other students. • No letter grades • Students must demonstrate mastery consistently on three different occasions

Standards Based Grading • 1 – Significantly below level: little attempt; little understanding of concept or skill • 2 – Working towards the standard: part of concept understood, but work is not at standard. The student requires assistance with the task or the assignment has been modified below the 4th grade standard • 3 – Meeting all expectations on grade level, consistently meets standards independently • 4 – Consistently exceeds the standard: works independently; seeks information to learn more about the topic

Daily CAFE • Fourth grade will use the Daily CAFÉ structure to teach reading • Each day, students will read to someone, read to self, work on writing, word work, and listen to reading • Students are responsible for choosing books on their level • Students are responsible for keeping track of the work they have done and turning in work at the end of each week • Teachers will teach 2 reading mini lessons per day and students will choose from the 5 options between each mini lesson
