IceTop and IceCube
DESCRIPTION
IceTop is the surface component of the IceCube Neutrino Observatory, located at an elevation of 3000 m a.s.l. It functions as a 3-dimensional air shower array, utilizing coincidence events between its two tanks to detect cosmic-ray compositions. With a primary energy range from 3 x 10^14 eV to 10^18 eV, IceTop plays a crucial role in calibrating and tuning event reconstruction algorithms and monitoring low- and high-gain operations. Deployed in December 2004, the system facilitates the study of cosmic-ray showers and their impact on high-energy astrophysics.
