3. Supplies • Notebook Paper • Blue and/or Black Pens • Red Pens for Editing • Pencils • Erasers • Hand Pencil Sharpeners • Highlighters • Index Cards • One 3-ring Notebook for Math (2 in.) • One 3-ring Notebook for ELA/Science/SS (2 in.) • Dividers (A LOT) • Two 3-prong folders with pockets (science)

4. Agendas/Planners • Your child’s agenda is his/her passport to the media center, restroom, counselor, breakfast, etc. • The agenda is the line of communication between school and home.

5. Agenda Responsibility • The student is responsible for writing down all assignments in the agenda. • A daily agenda and homework assignment are posted in each classroom. • Checking your child’s agenda nightly helps ensure that he/she remains successful.

6. Power School/Parent Connect • You will have instant access to: • Current grades and averages • Upcoming tests, projects, quizzes, daily grades, and homework

7. What To Look For On Power School? • (--) means that the assignment has not been entered yet • (M) means that the assignment is missing and a zero is/will be put in • (check mark) means that the assignment has been turned in • (EXE) means your child is exempt • (L) means the assignment was turned in late • Look at the descriptions of each assignment: sometimes a teacher might give information about the assignment which will help to understand expectations

8. Grading • 40% Daily/Quiz Grades • 40% Test Grades/Projects • 20% Final Exams (taken at the end of every nine weeks)

9. Homework Policy • Homework is assigned every night and may include: • Reading Assignments • Review Notes • Complete/Review a Practice Activity • Question and Answer Activity • Study/Prepare for Quizzes and Tests • Projects

10. Textbooks • Textbooks will be issued in Science, Social Studies, and English/Language Arts • These will be returned at the end of the year • Fines for lost/damaged books will be assessed

11. Behavior • We have to maintain a positive learning environment so that all students may meet the learning standards. • School Handbook policies are followed. • Possible consequences may include: • Silent Lunch • Student Conferences • Parent Contact • Office Referral

12. Absences • Please send in a note for student absences upon return to school. • This is given to the homeroom teacher. • Students are responsible for asking a fellow classmate and/or teacher for any missed class work (this includes notes). • Some items may be placed on the teacher’s webpage for access. • Students may see the teacher for any missed worksheets and/or tests.

13. Lunch • Breakfast is $1.00 • Lunch is $2.00. • Students may pre-pay for meals at any time. • Ice Cream is sold daily for $1.00. • There is no snack time.

15. Parent Drop-Off/Pick-up • Students may be dropped off at school starting at 7:15 A.M. • Students will report immediately to their homeroom teacher upon arrival. • Students may be picked up at 2:40 P.M. upon dismissal.

16. Buses • Please make sure your child knows his/her address, phone number, and bus number.

17. Channel One Newscast • Every morning during Homeroom, the students will watch the Channel One news program. • There is no talking during this broadcast.

18. Announcements • Announcements occur every morning after the Pledge of Allegiance and the Moment of Silence. • Talking is not allowed during announcements. • The announcements are also posted on the school website www.bryan.k12.ga.us/rhms.

19. WebPages • Check out teacher WebPages and email at www.bryan.k12.ga.us/rhms. • We may post some items of assistance on our webpage, but once again, Power School and agendas are best utilized for parent/teacher communication.

20. Transition to Classes • Students will always walk on the right side of the hallway to insure an orderly transition free of misconduct.

21. Bus Passes • Bus passes are for emergency use only. They are not to be used for personal transportation. (For example: spend the night parties)

22. School Nurse • The clinic is available to students who become ill at school. • All medications must be delivered and signed in with the nurse by the parent/guardian.

23. English/Language Arts • Reading as a Tool for Learning • Exploring Different Genres of Literature • Writing to Communicate Effectively • Expressing Ideas • Evaluating Good Writing • Developing a Personal Writing Style • Adhering to the Standard Rules of Grammar

24. Social Studies: World Geography • Location: Europe, Canada, Latin America, and Australia • Topography • Natural Resources • Environmental Concerns • Climate • Culture • Government • Economics • History

25. Earth Science • Students will begin their science journey in the Earth’s inner core and make their way to outer space. Units of study include: • Geology • Oceanography • Meteorology • Astronomy

26. Math • The key to success in math is developing vocabulary and practicing the skills. • Know your multiplication facts!
