  3. Communication • Planners are filled out and signed daily. • Monday folders are sent home weekly. • You may view weekly newsletter on our web backpacks. • Mid terms are sent home for all students mid quarter.

  4. Expectations Classroom Management Positive Behavior Support C. A. R. E. Cooperate with others Act Safely Respect our self and others Encourage success for all! • Classroom Rule-It’s never okay to be disruptive • Rethink, safe seat, buddy room

  5. Classroom Policy/Procedures Snacks/Water Bottles Miscellaneous Cell phones should be turned off during the school day. Dress code— Dress for recess! • Growing sixth graders get hungry! (Lunch time is at the noon hour) • Please send healthy snacks for your child. • Water bottles are allowed, but must have pull tops and contain only water!

Academics • Reading: Wonders Reading series, novels, self-selected reading • Language: Basic grammar skills, prefixes, suffixes, intense focus on writing skills • Spelling: Sixth grade curriculum for the first quarter—from the reading series. • Math: Exciting textbook and technology! Flexible grouping and many games! • Social Studies: Focus is ancient civilizations, current events, research • Science: Experiments, inquiry method, nutrition, growth and development and Second Steps curriculum

  7. Projects • Quarterly book projects-quarter 1—Book in a Bag • Due date: October 8th • No late book projects are taken.

  8. Homework District Guidelines Nieman Policy Late work is taken for the first quarter. It is lowered 10% each day it is late. Corrections may be made on non test assignments that are less than 70%. • Approximately 60 minutes daily • Includes silent reading, and daily spelling and math practice

  9. Absences/Messages • Please call the office or nurse when absent • If you need a message to reach your child’s teacher-please ask the office to give it to us directly. • Students are given two days for every one day to complete make up work • The student is responsible for the make up work.
