  4. Lunch and Snack Procedures • Lunch is at 11:45. • Lunch can be paid for using cash or check. • Pay for lunch online www.mymealtime.com • Healthy afternoon snacks • Birthday treats must arrive before 1:45 pm and must follow the store bought district policy. • Due to allergies, no peanuts please.

  5. Math • Topics: • Addition, subtraction, multiplication, division • Patterns, measurement, and geometry • Basic algebra, probability, and estimation • Fractions, time, and money • Pre-assessments • Center-based

  6. Language Arts • Write from the Beginning curriculum • 6+1 Traits of Writing • Word Choice, Sentence Fluency, Voice • Conventions, Ideas/Content, Organization • Houghton Mifflin Reading Series leveled readers • Study the conventions of language • Improve reading skills • Guided reading groups

  7. Accelerated Reading Program • Monitors and manages independent reading practice. • Customized reading levels and goals. • AR books should be read in class and at home. Therefore, AR books must go back and forth between home and school.

  8. Social Studies • Maps • Early Civilization • Economics • Arizona History • World War II • Great Depression

  9. Science • Inquiry Process (e.g. Observing, Questioning, Testing, Analyzing) • History and Nature of Science • Science in Personal and Social Perspectives • Designing solutions to problems • Relationships between technology and science • Human activity and the environment • Life Science (e.g. Life Cycles, Plant and Animal Adaptations) • Physical Science (e.g. Energy and Magnetism) • Earth and Space Science ( e.g. Changes in the Earth and Sky)

  10. Homework • Homework will be assigned on Monday and is due on Friday of the same week. • IXL – 20 minutes 2x per week • Spelling/Vocabulary City - 20 minutes 2x per week • Reading/AR - 30 min per night

  12. Field Trips/Tax Credit • This year we are planning trips to Kartchner Caverns, the Capitol, and HCPA. More information to come. • The Arizona tax law allows taxpayers a tax credit for contributions paid by a taxpayer during the taxable year to a public school for the support of extracurricular or co-curricular activities.

  13. Communication • Best way to be reached is via email. • Every effort is made to return messages in a prompt manner. • Refer to teacher pages for school and classroom updates.

  14. Volunteers • We welcome and look forward to parent volunteers in the classroom. • For the safety of our students it is necessary to be cleared as a volunteer. Please contact Charlotte Foret in the front office for information on the volunteer program. • Also keep in mind that clearance can expire so please make sure you are up to date. • Art Masterpiece

  15. Binders • Student Binders are a way for students to stay organized and take responsibility for their own learning. • They should be returned daily. • Agenda is completed by the students daily and needs to be reviewed with the parents.
