    1. Aligning Your Library To The State Standards San Antonio ISD Librarians Meeting March 30, 2005 Good afternoon, and thank you for allowing me to present to you today. What I will be speaking to you about are *** the new proposed state library standards: *** the importance of Aligning Your Library to these Standards, and *** how Follett Library Resources can help you accomplish this alignment and in the process manage your collections better. I would like to begin by asking the group a very important question, Do you believe that the library standards are important? Discussion NO because they are not mandated or Yes because Aside from being a professional tool that will help you to measure and assess your library program, the standards are also a means for helping us to educate others about the importance of School Libraries and the impact of Library Media Specialists on Student Academic Achievement. TESTIMONY: South San, Edgewood, SouthSide ENTERGood afternoon, and thank you for allowing me to present to you today. 2. 2004 School Library Programs: Standards and Guidelines for Texas Creates a 5-year collection development plan. Evaluates and maintains a collection with an average age of less than (Exemplary, Recognized, Acceptable) (excluding folklore, poetry, literature, and history.) Time sensitive material has an average age of less than 5 years. Develops a 5-year strategy for planning, implementing, evaluating, and reporting the budget. Utilizes collection analysis tools or collection mapping to analyze collection annually. Develops a formal campus collection management plan that includes weeding and point of use collection development to maintain a current, relevant collection, using formal tools, such as the CREW method. Builds the collection based on knowledge of the curriculum, state educational objectives, national information literacy standards and student and faculty characteristics and needs It is important to know that revisions have been proposed to the Texas Library Standards. The revisions were approved by the Texas State Library and Archives Commission on March 19, 2004. The State Board of Education will consider the revised Standards and Guidelines at their July and Sept. 2004 meetings. Administrative rule revision process will take place. The Texas State Library and Archives Commission will consider final approval of the revised Standards and Guidelines at their following meeting in early 2005. I would liked to list for your benefit a few of the Goals and Principals mentioned in the new proposed standards. The list I am about to run through with you is by no means the entire list. I will be discussing only those points that Follett can help you address. ENTER Demo on CTWIE.
