Announcements • For the month of December we will be collecting cans for our group community service (2 WC pts a can) • Final day for cans is December 21st 2011 • Bill Writing Workshops will happen on Thursdays in December at 3:30 to 4:30 in the Computer Science Lab • This Thursdays Teacher Helper is Mr. Alanzo • Mandatory 2 workshops before handing in bill • Mandatory 1 English or History teacher review and signature • Bill Due Date: DECEMBER 23RD 2011 • Price for Winter Congress is $180 • Money Due Date: JANUARY 5TH 2012

  3. Word of the Week GDP = Gross Domestic Product Definition: The market value of all final goods and services produced within a country in a given period. Purpose: To indicative a countries cost of standard living Configuration: GDP = C + I + G + (X-M) GDP = private consumption + gross investment + government spending + (exports − imports) • Private consumption - buying products not from the government • Gross investment- investing money that is currently being made

  5. Websites: Domain All websites have different purposes based on the context on the webpage. How do you find the a resourceful source based on the web domain? A domain is the ending of the web address: -.com, -.net, -.edu Domains: • -.edu= university owned/written domain (can be written by university students as well as professors) both factual/opinionated information • -.gov/-.mil = government/military owned/written domain primarily factual information • -.com/-.net= written to inform by publishing/news companies. primarily factual information • -.org = written/owned by small interest groups specializing a topic, primarily opinionated information

Websites: Search Engine Popular Search Engines: • Bing.com (Search Engine) • Google.com (Search Engine) • Yahoo.com (Search Engine) Search Engines are a way of searching for multiple webpage's with one set description. Above are the most popular Search Engines but you can use any Search Engine you find.

Websites: Acceptable Websites • Acceptable: • Dictionary.com (Definition)- good for mainly looking up words • Wikipedea.com (Biography's)- ONLY should be used for biographic research, this website can be edited with FALSE INFORMATION • Msnbc.msn.com (Current Event Fact)- All Factual Information • Fox.com (Current Event Fact) - All Factual Information • Nytimes.com (Current Event Fact) - All Factual Information • Bostonglobe.com (Current Event Fact) - All Factual Information These are NOT the ONLY acceptable websites, other current event articles/websites will be great assets Not Acceptable: • Ask answers • Yahoo answers Typing a question into a Search Engine is NOT research, the “answers” that is found, is most likely going to be an opinion.

  8. Websites: Opinion vs. Facts YOU ARE ALWAYS LOOKING FOR FACT!!! An opinionated article can change the way many people see an issue. When reading or researching opinionated articles, be sure to separate fact and opinion. Fact will help you create an argument that is strong and debatable.

Taking Notes Notes: • Bring a notebook/notepad • Bring a pen • Write down anything you agree/disagree with • Write down any opinion you believe in or have yourself • Write down an argument you have • Write down an argument the opposing side might have These are just a few small tips that you can follow while researching to keep your work precise and organized
