This study investigates the effects of overexpressing the metD operon on the uptake of 1-[14C]L-methionine and 1-[14C]D-methionine in various bacterial strains, including wild type and mutants Δabc-yaeE and ΔyaeC. Bacteria were cultivated in M9 minimal medium supplemented with ampicillin and arabinose. The uptake is measured in nmol/mg dry weight over a specified time period, providing insights into the metabolic pathways involved and demonstrating the differences in methionine uptake among the different strains with and without the metD operon.

Effects of overexpression of the metD operon on uptake of 1-[14C]L- methionine (A) and 1-[14C]D-methionine (B) by the wild type, the abc-yaeE and the yaeC mutant. Bacteria were grown in M9 minimal medium plus ampicillin and arabinose at 100 g/ml and 2 mM, respectively. Uptake was performed as described in Figure 2. , wild type BW25113 (pBAD24); , wild Type BW25113 (pBAD24-metD); , abc-yaeE (pBAD24); , abc-yaeE (pBAD24-metD); , yaeC (pBAD24); and ,yaeC (pBAD24-metD).
