  2. Nasal Cavity and Oral Cavity • Air enters the nasal cavity through the nostrils • Air is filtered with the help of tiny hair – cilia • Special cells moistens and warms the air

  3. Pharynx • Acts like a common passageway of food and the air. • Food beings swallowed is prevented from entering the air tube by a thin structure, called epiglottis .

  4. Larynx • Voice box - production of voice

  5. Trachea [TRAY-kee-uh] • Windpipe • Lined with a mucus membrane and hair like projections called cilia . • The cilia move the mucus upward to clear the respiratory tract.

  6. Bronchi/us [BRAHN-ky] • Two branched tube from trachea • Delivers air to the Lungs

  7. Bronchioles • Branches of bronchus • Delivers air to the Lungs

  8. Bronchioles • Branches of bronchioles • Delivers air to the Lungs

  9. Lungs • Main organs of the respiratory system. • Oxygen is taken into the body and carbon dioxide is breathed out. • The RBC are responsible for picking up the oxygen it to all the body cells that need it and remove carbon dioxide.

  10. Diaphragm • Contraction of muscle results to breathing • Inspiration = Inhale • Expiration = Exhale
