The Teachings of Confucius: Reviving Duty and Ritual in Society

Confucius, born in the state of Lu to impoverished parents, dedicated his life to improving society through a government career. Despite his efforts to advocate for a return to ancestral rituals and values, his ideas were largely ignored by officials. He believed that individuals with talent should contribute to government and emphasized the importance of duty— prioritizing the needs of families and communities over personal desires. His philosophy, known as Confucianism, continues to influence thoughts on morality and governance.
