  3. Sleep Apnea • Symptoms: • Trouble breathing during sleep • Causes: • Enlarged tonsils • Obesity • Recurring infection

  4. Narcolepsy • Symptoms: • Characterized by uncontrollable sleep attacks • Causes: • Neurological • Much is still unknown

  5. Insomnia • Symptoms: • Failure to sleep • Causes: • Anxiety • Depression • Alcohol abuse • Drug abuse

  6. Nightmares/Night Terrors • Symptoms: • Unpleasant dreams during REM sleep • Screaming/panic during Stage IV. sleep • Causes: • Sleep Deprivation/Fatigue • Stress/Anxiety • Fever (children) • Intense stimulation of the parts of the brain associated with emotional reactions during REM sleep

  7. Sleepwalking/Sleep Talking • Symptoms: • Walking/talking while asleep • Causes: • Stress • Fatigue • Sedative medications • Heredity • Extensive Stage 4 sleep
