STRATEGY (Pickett’s Charge) • Confederates planned to unleash artillery barrage, focus on center • Barrage began at 1 PM, both inflicted damage on each other • Confederate troops aimed high, missed, ran out of ammo • Next attack planned 12,000 men to march 1000 yards • Confederates opened fire, started at Seminary Ridge, received Union fire from Cemetery Hill to Little Round Top • Union forces withdrew to exchange batteries, Confederates advanced • Confederate soldiers rearranged, gave Union a better shot • March continued, Confederates devastated by “Angle” of Union soldiers • Pickett lost over half of his army, retreated

STRATEGY (OTHER) KILPATRICK vs. LONGSTREET • Union ordered frontal cavalry assault against Confederates, disastrous STUART vs. GREGG • Both sides met east of Gettysburg • Confederates charged, halted by Union countercharge • Confederate forces arranged into column, vulnerable • Confederates retreated after being cut off, attacked from all sides • Neither side claimed victory
