  1. Five Themes Activity Time for some notes: Title this in your notebook as Activity one-Five themes copy the following terms in your notebook! You have 10 minutes Five Themes Absolute place on a map. Relative location to where you are. Location Physical- landforms, climate, vegetation, human-political systems, customs, economy. Place Human interaction with the environment. Can be negative: Example pollution Can be positive: Example recycling Relationship As people move, goods and ideas move. Example: cell phone. Movement Region Places that have similar attributes. Iowa is located in the Midwest region

Location-You have10 minutes Where: Madrid, Spain 40N-15W West of Algona-4432 miles Plane –From Des Moines to New York New York to Madrid Flight time 9 hr and 14 min Where did your ancestors come from, Germany, Italy, South America. (this will be considered your area of study for further reference.) 2. What is the longitude and latitude of _______________? This is an example of absolute Location. Where is your area of study relative to where you live? (use map to give direction and approximate mileage from where you live to your area of study. This is an example of relative location. 4. How would you get to your area of study? What are some of the different modes of transportation you could take to get there? After you have decided on your modes of transportation give the approximate amount of time it would take to travel from where you live to your area of study. This will require an internet search.

  3. Place Compare the six elements of place. Explain how each element applies to where you live. Either use the textbook, smart phone, or computer if available. You have 20 minutes. 5.   4. Relationship to Environment 1. What is the relationship that the people of Georgia have to their environment? Example: Iowa has an agrarian (agriculture based) economy. This means the land and soil is important to the economy of the state. Explain how the people of your area use their environment. You have 10 minutes.

  5. Movement-You have 15 Minutes 1. Explain the migration patterns to Georgia . Where did the first people to this area come from and why did they migrate to Georgia? Where have people from Georgia migrated to in the last century? Give examples of other countries and regions that people from this area have migrated to. 3. Give examples of imports and exports to and from your area of study. What you purchase from other countries What you sell to other countries.

  6. Region-You have 10 Minutes 1. What region of the United States is Georgia located in? Example: Arizona is located in the Southwest region of the United States. Use the map and identify this region of the United States. Explain three characteristics of this region that makes it different or unique from other regions of the world. You may want to concentrate on food, clothing, and shelter.
