APAN-JP Report

GGF7, the first Global Grid Forum held in the Asia-Pacific region, saw over 780 participants. The event marked the completion of Open Grid Service Infrastructure (OGSI) version 1.0. TransPAC Upgrade and other network developments were also discussed.

  3. GGF7 in Tokyo • March 4-7, 2003 • GGF7 concluded successfully - over 780 GRID enthusiasts, practitioners and experts participated in the first GGF to be held in the Asia-Pacific! • Open Grid Service Infrastructure (OGSI) version 1.0 was completed.

  4. TransPAC Upgrade (2.5 Gbps x 2)in Oct. 2003 Abilene/LaLaLAN KDDI Ohtemachi Manchester Maruyama Moro Bay Shima StarLight KDDI LA Japan-USCable Tokyo ---- LaLaLAN : Protected Tokyo ---- StarLight : Unprotected, but Non-Preemptive

  5. TransPAC Link Owner on JP side • TransPAC Link Owner on Japan side will be transferred to CRL from JST on November 1, 2003 • NSF accepted the transfer. • Resource Allocation Sub-Committee will be managed by JST until the next Hawaii meeting.

  6. Gigabit JP – CN Link expected • Demand of Gigabit JP-CN Link should be clarified; proposal of joint research projects is requested. • Meeting with APAN-CN in HK will be planned to discuss on the network design as well as joint research projects. • Experiments under an existing project might start in this fiscal year.

  7. Earth Monitoring • Multiple governments in Japan will work for Earth Monitoring Projects, based on the agreement of G8 Summit in June, 2003. • APAN-JP members will join the projects.
