  1. RAP Teams: How Do We Get Where We Want/Need to Go?Calhoun ISDAnn WaltonBeth BrophyTim Voskuil

  2. Agenda • Welcome and Introductions • Part 1: Building the Team and Structure • Who should be on the team? • Integrated workshops • Part 2: Getting the Team There • Our facilitation process • Team outputs • Part 3: Getting YOUR ISD and Teams There • Next steps • Share out • Resources for Data

  3. Why Are We Doing This? • Because Simon says! • https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u4ZoJKF_VuA • 11:02 • People don’t buy what you do, people buy WHY you do it • Why: We believe all students can succeed in and after school and there’s GOT to be a better way of doing things • How: Through integrated and more efficient systems • What: CIMS/DI, General/Special Education, Data Analysis

  4. Do You Need More Incentive? • ESEA and IDEA • Continued focus on compliance (FAPE) • Increased focus on RESULTS • Graduation/Dropout • Student Achievement • Post-Secondary Outcomes

  5. How Did We Get Here? • Why did we get started? • Disconnected systems (CIMS and DI) • Disconnected teams • Lack of useful RAP Team output for School Improvement • How did we get started? • It all started in the copy room…

  6. Who Should Be On The Team? • Dependent upon your Strand Report data and required activities • As much overlap with District Improvement Team as possible • Facilitates collaboration and communication • Ensures special education representation on School/ District Improvement Teams • Don’t want two separate teams (RAP and DI Teams)

  7. Who Should Be On The Team? • ISD School Improvement Consultants • Special Education Supervisor/Director • Teacher Consultants and/or Transition Coordinators • Teachers • Building Administrators • Curriculum “Directors” • Pupil Accounting

  8. Now What? • Need to integrate District Improvement Planning with the CIMS process • Ensure RAP/DI Team outputs are inputs into School and/or District Improvement Planning** process • Need a process/structure/system to do so

  9. Our Facilitation Process… • How I facilitate in Calhoun • Start thinking about your workaround at your ISD/ESA, given you don’t have a “me” • Who you can talk to • What structures/processes can be set up • How you can help districts get more valuable data

  10. Our Facilitation Process… • Conduct “pre-meetings” with each district • Review Strand Report data • Identify strengths and weaknesses • Options to work through RAP Team Process: • CIMS/DI Workshop - or - • Individual district RAP meeting • Obtain and prepare data for workshops or RAP meetings • CIMS Indicator Data Resources • More current data and trend data

  11. Our Facilitation Process… • Initial disconnect with Results Transmittals in CIMS • We developed “Transmittal Addendum” to: • Develop gap statement and causes for gaps (root cause hypotheses) • Develop objectives, strategies, and activity descriptions • Submit completed Transmittal Addendum to District/School Improvement Teams • Email Transmittal Addendum to Tim • RAP Team “Transmittal Addendums” are in same format as District/School Improvement Plans

  12. Benefits We Have Found • Identified District Improvement Team membersss • Special education representation and participation • Teams working on plans multiple times/year • DI Plan is not being completed in isolation 1 week prior to deadline • Sharing of best practices across county • Increased communication between districts and schools about relevant strategies

  13. Getting YOUR Team There • Think about what we’ve talked about and how this might look in your ISD/ESA… • People I can talk to at my ISD/ESA: • School/District Improvement Consultants • General Education Directors and Staff • Other? • Next steps I can take: • Add onto existing structures? • Modify/collaborate on developing new structures? • Share out

  14. Resources For Data • How do we get valuable data than what’s in the Strand Report? • CIMS Indicator Data Resources document • If I can’t get the data, who do I need to talk to? • Do you know where each Indicator data comes from? • Who’s checking the data prior to submission? • DATA TEST!!!
