Genes or Environment? • Oxford University figures: • 57.5% of places went to applicants from the state schools. • 42.5% to applicants from the independent schools. • DFE – UK3,941 maintained secondary schools, 3,708,143 pupils, in the UK. • 2,500 independent schools in the UK, with around 615,000 children. Of this there are around 700 Secondary independents with about 360,000 pupils. • This is 7% of all pupils, rising to around 18% of pupils aged over 16.

  20. Task Critically review the Following assertion: “Genetics is the most important factor in an individual’s life chances. With the right genes, success will always be forthcoming” Make sure you make points that examine both sides of the Nature/Nurture Debate and give evidence where possible
