Water Board of Lemesos • Established in 1951 • Semi-government, non-profit organisation • Supply of potable water only • Number of employees : 100 • Area served : 70 km2 • Population Served : 170 000 • Annual water needs : 13 million m3 • Number of consumers : 68 000 • Length of pipework : 800 km • Annual turnover : € 7 million

Problems Faced During Intermittent Supply • Conflict between the various groups of water users • Deterioration of the water quality • Increase in the number of pipe bursts – loss of water • Enormous number of consumer complaints • Additional expenses incurred by the Water Boards: - reduction in water sales - staff overtime / pipe repairs

Measures taken by the Boards in recent drought periods • Enforced water restriction to their consumers • Disconnected supply to all green areas • Applied hose pipe ban for washing cars, pavements, etc. • Produced and distributed plastic bags for toilet cisterns • Public information and education programs • Promote water conservation in schools • Promotional leaflets on water saving sent to consumers • Immediate repair of leaking pipes • Close collaboration with Government Departments
