  2. How did the US feel about the war in 1914? POLICY OF ISOLATION not involved in other countries affairs -Privately President Wilson sided with the Allies because he was concerned with German warfare (invasion of Belgium)

  3. Financial Involvement • By 1917 • US was selling Great Britain up to $75 billion worth of weapons.

  4. German Warfare • U boats - “Unterseeboots” • 1915 • Germany declared that waters around GB were a war zone and that neutral boats would be attacked • UNRESTRICTED SUBARINE WARFARE

  5. Wilson • Germany has violated laws of neutrality • The United States will hold Germany personally responsible for any American lives lost

  9. Declaration of War • April 2nd, 1917 • US declares war on Germany “We shall fight for the things which we have always carried nearest our hearts, for democracy…and to bring peace and safety to all nations and to make the world itself at last free.”
