North Somerset Clinical Commissioning Group • Statutory body responsible for commissioning health services for North Somerset from April 2013 - currentlypreparing for authorisation • ‘Member organisation’ 26 North Somerset GP Practices • Clinician led – Dr Mary Backhouse, Chief Clinical Officer Designate • Budget for 2012/13 around £255 million per years (78% of PCTs current budget) – acute (hospitals) account for 58% - must deliver within budget! • Challenges • North Somerset has below average funding for health and social care • Rapid growth in North Somerset population with high proportion over 65 • Large inequality gap between wealthiest and poorest wards – increasing • Over reliance on residential and nursing homes (over 2 times national average) • Priorities for 2012/13 • Integrating health and social care services, reducing health inequalities, promoting self care, improving health and support for patients with dementia • Website: http://www.northsomerset.nhs.uk/CCG/default.asp
