  6. Vocabulary • 1. Hominids– an early ancestor of humans • 2. Neanderthals– an extent species of Homo Sapiens who were closely related to modern humans • 3. Homo Sapiens – means “wise man”; same species as modern human beings • 4. Hunter-Gatherer- societies that get all of their food by hunting wild animals and gathering wild plants, seeds, fruits and nuts

  10. Review “Two Truths and A Lie” 1. Using a dry-erase board and a dry-erase marker (notebook paper and pencil if not marker), write two truths and a lie about the information learned today. 2. We will rotate among the class trying to correctly answer the questions.

  11. Independent • A. Students will create an advertisement that sells tools to other early humans groups unfamiliar with the technology. Students’ advertisement should highlight why the tools are important to society and clearly explain why people will want to use it (what benefits will a society gain?). Use at least 4 content vocabulary words. • B. Design a “Cave Painting” in which you judge the value of technology for the development of humans (how important or beneficial is technology for humans to develop?). Provide at least 5 examples to support your opinion. Use pictures, words, symbols, or other examples to answer the question in the “Cave Painting”. • C. As an anthropologist you find Hominids very fascinating. You and your fellow colleges have been excavating sites and are very excited to share your news regarding the latest discoveries. Write a letter, journal entry, magazine or newspaper article comparing the importance of tools for societies’ development in both early and modern humans. Provide several examples comparing these societies. Use at least 4 content vocabulary words. • D. How would you have handled being transported back into the “Cave Man Era”? Determine how you will present this question (visual and/or written) How would you have survived? Where would you live? What would you do for a living? How is your life different from today?
