  2. Contents • General informations about fire • Prevention/Good Practices • Extinguishingequipements • Conclusions Fire - GeePs

  3. General informations about fire: nature How does a fire start? Combustion requires the following three elements: • fuel (flammable liquid, paper, oil-soaked rag, etc.), • an oxidising agent (generally oxygen from the air), • activation energy (electrical short circuit, cigarette end, hot tool, spark, naked flame, etc.). Together these form what is known as the fire triangle. If one of these three elements is missing or disappears, the fire cannot continue to burn. Fire - GeePs

  4. General informations about fire: causes • Electricalequipements • Heatingsystems • Hot work • Smokersnegligence • Storage of flammableproducts and combustible materials • Natural causes : lightning Fire - GeePs

  5. Prevention/Good Practices • Prevention : reduce and, if it’s possible, suppress the likehood of fire. • Protection : limit and slow down the start and spread of fires. Fire - GeePs

  6. Prevention/Good Practices • Preventingfire: Follow the rules! • Warning : Manualswitching of alarm in case of firestart or smokestart • Knowing fire escape routes, clearemergency exits, safety instructions, evacuationplan and fire assembly points before a fire starts will greatly enhance the ability to reactcalmly. Fire - GeePs

  7. Prevention/Good Practices • Limitingfirespreading : firedoors, openingsmoke vents (manual),firetraining (extinguishingequipment) Fire - GeePs

  8. Prevention/Good Practices • Help the emergency services to act as safely and effectively as possible. Fire - GeePs

  9. Extinguishingequipment : fire classes Fire - GeePs

  10. Extinguishingequipment • Action on: • Fuel: • Stoppinggasemission • Loweringtemperature • Oxidising agent: • Smother • Removingoxygen • Activation energy: • Loweringtemperature Fire - GeePs

  11. FireRisks: Conclusion Preventingfiresinvolves the following: • Limiting the causes of fire: • Do not smoke in the buildings • Store flammableproducts and combustible materials in the good place • Periodicallyverify installations • Keep emergency exits and extinguishingequipementclear • Do not obstructaisles • Learn how to fightfirestart • Take part in fire drills Fire - GeePs
