This article examines how followers respond to toxic leadership through the lens of social identity and role status. It explores the implications of negative emotions and their impact on cooperation and retribution among followers. By addressing the dynamics of high and low status roles, we investigate the facilitators of response to destructive behaviors in organizations, supported by results from relevant studies. The insights provided aim to help leaders and organizations understand and mitigate the effects of toxic leadership through positive identity reinforcement.
