  2. Constitution of 1824: The Constitution of 1824 was a national constitution that governed the Republic of Mexico state, including Texas, ran its own executive, judicial, and legislative affairs. Local laws had to agree with national law, but the states were very independent. The constitution also made the Catholic faith the official religion.

  3. Constitution of Coahuila Y Tejas (1827) : The Constitution of Coahuila Y Tejas came out in March 1827. it split Coahuila Y Tejas into three departments. The document promised the rights of liberty, property, and equality. It didn’t allow slavery. State courts had judicial power. As in the Constitution of 1824, the Catholic faith was the official religion.

  4. Constitution of the Republic of Texas(1836): Ninety-Nine delegates wrote the Constitution of the Republic of Texas in March 1836. The constitution borrowed from the United States Constitution. It had a Ill of Rights. The Congress had two houses, The Senate and House of Representatives. The judicial system had a Supreme Court and various lower courts.

  5. Constitution of 1845: When Texas joined the United States, the Constitution of 1845 gave Texas its first state government. The Supreme Court was at the top of the judicial branch. The Constitution put limits on the power of the legislature. The United States accepted the Texas Constitution of 1845 on December 29, 1845.

  6. Constitution of 1861: in February 1861, Texas seceded from the United States and joined the Confederate States of America State officials had to swear to be loyal to the Confederacy. The constitution protected slavery more strongly but didn’t allow the slave trade. The Constitution of 1861 didn’t have an extreme view of states’ rights like some other Southern states.
