  2. What is the Canadian Music Centre? • A non-profit, non-governmental organization dedicated to preserving and promoting the music of Canadian composers.

  3. What is the Canadian Music Centre? • Canada’s largest collection of Canadian concert music, including the works of over 700 Associate Composers. • A unique repository of thousands of scores and recordings, most of which are available exclusively at the CMC.

  4. What is an Associate Composer? • Applications are assessed based on the following criteria: • Professional status • Commissions received • Professional performances received • NB: Composers are NOT evaluated on musical style. The jury does not examine actual scores or listen to recordings.

  5. What is the Canadian Music Centre? • A music library dedicated to making scores by Canadian composers available to the public on library loan. • A reference source for questions pertaining to the lives, careers and works of Associate Composers, and Canadian music in general.

  6. What is the Canadian Music Centre? • A print-on-demand publishing service offering ‘unpublished’ works from the collection for sale to the public. • A retailer with Canada’s largest selection of Canadian concert music on CD, including on our own label, Centrediscs.

  7. What is the Canadian Music Centre? Organization formed in 1959. 5 regional branches across Canada: • British Columbia (Vancouver) • Prairie (Calgary) • National (Toronto) • Quebec (Montreal) • Atlantic (Sackville, NB)

  8. Where is the Canadian Music Centre? • BC Regional Office, centrally located in downtown Vancouver at 837 Davie Street. • Opened in 1978. • Staffed by: • Bob Baker, Regional Director • Marci Rabe, Office Coordinator • Stefan Hintersteininger, Librarian • A dedicated team of volunteers

New Directions at the CMC BC • Re-dedication of the CMC BC as ‘Creative Hub’: • Downstairs performance space available for lectures, concerts, discussion panels, workshops and other events. • Increased focus on expanding the CMC BC’s presence in the community, especially with educational programming and outreach.
