  4. We need to teach behavior the same way we teach reading, math, science, etc. Teach Model Practice Praise

  5. “Give Me Five!” Ears Listening Mouth Quiet Eyes Watching Hands & Feet Still Brains Thinking When I see this, my hand is raised and I am silent and still .

  6. Zones • Red Zones mean “No Talking” (Hallways) • Yellow Zones mean “Talking quietly and inside voices” (Bathrooms and cafeteria) • Green Zones mean “ Normal voices and Have Fun” (Playground)

  7. Who are Countryside Cougars? • Every student, teacher, custodian, cafeteria staff, hostess, bus driver and parent at Countryside Elementary! • We treat every Cougar with Respect!

  19. We want to switch from a reactive approach. to a proactive approach. What is Needed to Address Challenges?

  20. PBIS means: Being Proactive instead of reactive. We brainstorm where problems might occur: In the car Family room Bathroom We brainstorm when problems might occur: Transitions Meal times Academics/homework We brainstorm who might have problems: Certain children together Certain children when they are overtired We want to be one step ahead of the children.

  22. The quickest way to change behavior….in anyone. Research indicates that you can improve behavior by 80% just by pointing out what someone is doing correctly. Point out what they are doing right

  23. Discipline means teaching children what we want them to do and correcting them when they make mistakes. Punishment stops but doesn’t change behavior. What is discipline?

  24. EnforceableStatements I’ll be happy to take you to soccer when your room is clean. I’d love to give you 15 minutes of free computer time when the table is set for dinner. I’ll be happy to put dinner on the table when the toys are picked up. Take your time.
